A Frozen Delaware River

I live two blocks from the Delaware River. This winter one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen happened… the Delaware River froze over.

I was just looking at that famous picture of George Washington crossing the Delaware and the river had chunks of ice in it. So I wondered that with global warming and everything, does it still freeze over every winter?

I flew into Philly in January 1970. In those days the Phila. Naval Yards were still working. The Delaware River was frozen except where the Nval ships had moved about. There were chunks of ice as big as some of the ships. Quite and eye opener for a southern boy from Alabama. Another time I went to Maryland by via of US 1. The Susquehanna was froze behind the Conawingo Dam at the4 MD-PA line.
